The RAN Framework: How to Decide Which Work Is Safe to Delegate to AI

One of the most common mistakes companies make when adopting AI is trying to apply it to every process at once, without a clear framework for what's safe and what's risky. The RAN Framework — part of the Strategic AI Integration module in Subsdaily's training — exists to solve exactly this.

Replace means work that can be fully handed to AI because the risk is low and the output is easy to verify — a first draft of a summary or a transcription, for example. Assist means AI speeds up the work, but a human still makes the final call — data analysis feeding a business decision, for instance. Not Replace is work that should stay fully human because it involves ethical judgment, interpersonal relationships, or legal accountability.

By mapping workflows into these three buckets first, team leads can avoid two opposite mistakes at once: being too slow to adopt AI out of excessive caution, or delegating genuinely high-risk work too quickly.
